Does the lack of HDR punch matter when it comes to TCL? I would say not really for the price, but better HDR performance is one of the things you can definitely get if you spend more. If you send an HDR signal to the TCL, it remaps it well, so there are no harsh artifacts or severe highlight clipping (white, snowy peaks turn gray, for example). It doesn’t look any better than non-HDR material.

Like almost all LCDs, the TCL doesn’t look great unless you’re sitting directly in front of it. Black levels are up and color saturation is down, even if some of the seats on my sofa are sliding down. The same is true of comparison TVs, so we call it a wash.
