Laptop Bios Update: Risks And Benefits

Laptop Bios Update: Risks And Benefits – I’m having problems with my BIOS. My laptop wanted to do Windows Update. I chose to close and refresh. Hours later I booted up my computer and when I came back I had a blue screen saying ASUSTEK Easy Flash Utility.

I made sure the adapter was plugged in and when I pressed any key it didn’t do anything so I did a hard shutdown. I restarted it and on the right side of the taskbar it flashed quickly that I need to update the firmware or something. It arrived on the desktop fine. I tried to go online but now I have internet problems. I left the PC alone overnight and noticed that in the AM it shut itself down (not sure if it was low on power or what). When I got home later that day it started fine and I haven’t had a blue screen since.

I should add that the last Windows Update was on June 12th, so nothing has been updated lately.

How Do We Update The Bios On Our Pcs?

1) When I update I just select the first update in the list because the 2nd one has the same date as the first one (2019-06-06)

2) If you look at the list of updates, it was 316 in April, but the current 318 installed on my system is 2019-04-19. Also, the first list update is 318, but in June. Is everything okay here? It just doesn’t seem right to me.

3) I’ve read that you really shouldn’t update the BIOS if you don’t need to. If Windows asks me, should I not? Just double check because I’m nervous about it, although the youtube instructions don’t seem hard to do).

Bios updates, like you said, are only worth doing if there is some benefit, and if your laptop is working fine at the moment, I’d just go ahead as you are.

How To Repair Corrupted Bios Firmware: 7 Steps (with Pictures)

I don’t think Windows Update was trying to do a BIOS update (as I don’t think WU does either). Anyway, I got the blue screen right after I did the update, so I don’t know if it was a fluke or if WU triggered it somehow. (I’m a newbie so I don’t know if this is possible or not).

Since my computer was running fine, I probably wasn’t going to update the BIOS, or else I would have the tech do it if necessary. I just wanted information in case I decided to go for it (the youtube videos seemed pretty straightforward) but I really didn’t want to because I know it could be a disaster if something went wrong.

I checked for updates this afternoon. One that wasn’t updated last week was updated today. It was for Windows version 1809 for x64-based systems (KB4465065).

I spoke to ASUS and the tech said my laptop BIOS is up to date even though the current BIOS I have is from April and I thought the latest update was from June but I won’t argue with him back because he seemed to know what it was. talk about something All I know is that the April and June updates are the same version number, so I’ll leave it at that.

How To Update Your Bios In Windows 11

There’s an old saying, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” that seems to apply here.

As for those steps, the Asus guy suggested that you can do them if you want, but if you’re sure the laptop is working fine now, I don’t think they’ll change anything.

Yeah, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, that’s usually the way to go. But I used to ignore PC errors when it was working fine, and I think it ended up making it worse. That’s why I wanted to explore it.

I did those steps. I didn’t think it would do much either, but I thought I’d give it a shot. I didn’t get any errors when I ran sfc /scannow, so that’s good. Still not sure why I got the blue screen, but it doesn’t matter if the computer is running fine. I hope it won’t happen again.

See how it goes in a few days; hopefully the BSOD was a “one off” and won’t happen again.
