The Best Smart Home Devices In 2024

Meta made a big splash with its Quest 2 virtual reality (VR) headset, allowing it to introduce nearly 15 million of us to its version of the metaverse. Of course, we’ve always known that this was just the beginning, and soon we’ll see the launch of two new headsets that will make for an even more immersive and interactive virtual experience.

The Meta Quest 3 will be the next iteration of the existing line of consumer-focused headphones, likely sold at a subsidized price to bring more users into the ecosystem. The headset is expected to be an evolution, rather than a revolution, of the current Quest, which lacks technologies such as eye tracking, which are expected to be present in the next generation of high-end headsets. Quest Pro, on the other hand, is aimed at productivity use for professionals who want to participate in building the virtual worlds that will form the metaverse.

Apple has been making consumer smartwatches for a few years now, but in late 2022 it introduced a new model designed to compete with the high-end sports and luxury models recently introduced by competitors like Garmin and Tag Heuer. The Apple Watch Ultra is encased in a titanium shell, making it more wear-resistant and durable than any previous Apple Watch. It also has a brighter, scratch-resistant display, a powerful dedicated S8 processor and a battery that lasts almost twice as long between charges. New sensors include a depth gauge and water temperature sensors, both intended for divers.

Did you know that your urine contains more than 3,000 metabolites, which can be used to create a detailed snapshot of our health, provide early warnings of a number of diseases as well as advice on diet and exercise? Smart device manufacturer Withings does, which is why it has created the U-Scan. Billed as “the first hands-free connected home urine lab,” this device sits in a toilet bowl, ready to collect samples whenever it’s used. An optional “For Professionals” cartridge enables advanced data collection and analysis that clinicians can use to monitor daily changes in patient health over the long term, as well as to collect data for clinical trials.

Stylish Tech Gift Ideas We Love 2022

While it’s nice that devices like the Apple and Pixel watches are starting to include sensors for conditions like atrial fibrillation, which can be a predictor of heart problems, they can’t do anything about them yet. So it’s good to see other manufacturers working on devices that can be used to intervene directly in an emergency. The Lifeaz home defibrillator is the first defibrillator designed to be kept at home and was unveiled at this year’s CES. Essentially, it allows us to put the power to pull someone out of what would otherwise be a fatal cardiac arrest into our own home. While it is still awaiting FDA approval in the US, it has reportedly already been installed in over 100,000 European homes, where it has been used to save 17 lives.

The latest addition to Ring’s suite of smart home security devices is an autonomous drone designed to patrol your property, allowing you to see places stationary security cameras can’t. First teased in 2020, the Always Home drone camera was finally shown in prototype form at this year’s CES. Although there is still no exact information on when it will be available, reports suggest that it will cost around $250, which seems quite affordable for such a high-tech piece of home security gadgets. In addition to alerting you to intruders, it could also come in handy for forgetful homeowners who want to make sure they didn’t leave the stove on or the windows open.

It’s a “smart mask” that was first unveiled a few years ago when there was a rapid technology-driven innovation aimed at solving problems caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Several iterations later, the Airxom mask is now believed to provide protection against viruses, bacteria and atmospheric pollution, thanks to its polyethylene terephthalate filters that trap particles inside a mesh textile fabric while inactivating them through exposure to disinfectant and antibiotic copper, as well as ultraviolet light rays that is projected onto a photocatalytic silver surface. This process neutralizes threats posed by organic and inorganic contaminants as they pass through the mask.

Everyone knows we’re supposed to spend two minutes brushing our teeth, right? Well, not anymore! SonicBrush is marketed as the world’s first fully automatic toothbrush – meaning you don’t even need to move it around your mouth to get a perfect clean. Because it brushes every tooth in your mouth simultaneously, the manufacturers claim it can reduce the time we have to spend brushing our teeth from two minutes to just 30 seconds! This means we can enjoy a precious one minute and 30 second nap in bed both in the morning and at night. SonicBrush was another innovative gadget introduced for the first time at this year’s CES.

State Of The Gadget Union

Many of us have discovered the fun as well as the stunning photography and videography opportunities offered by drones over the past few years. The latest offering from the leader in consumer drone technology, DJI, is aimed at those who want to experience the thrill of first-person flight. DJI Avata is designed to provide a fully immersive flight experience through a wide field of view headset that gives the user on the ground the feeling of high-speed aerial drone flight. The motion control mimics the feel of a joystick for intuitive hand control, while the rugged design helps minimize damage if you accidentally crash the drone.

E-bikes are a convenient and environmentally friendly way to travel in urban environments, but until now they have often suffered from a lack of portability. However, GoCycle’s G4 is among the first of a new wave of fully foldable e-bikes that can be converted into more manageable forms that can easily be taken on public transport or even packed in the car for holidays or longer trips. The G4 isn’t cheap, but since it has the power, portability, and performance necessary to become your primary mode of transportation (especially for those who live in urban areas), it may well be a justified investment.

Timekettle has created what it says is the most powerful and advanced range of real-time, AI-powered translation headsets in the world. The WT2, M3 and WT2 Plus headsets come in a variety of models aimed at business, casual and travel users and enable translation in a variety of situations from business meetings, short conversations on the go and phone calls. This means you can speak naturally and simply let the earbuds translate for you as you speak. The high-end models allow up to six people to talk simultaneously, in 40 different languages, from Arabic to Vietnamese.

The GE Smart Mixer is a high-tech assistant in the kitchen and automatically weighs the right amount of ingredients thanks to a built-in scale and talks users through recipes with step-by-step instructions. Sensors detect the texture and consistency of the mixture to allow the device to offer real-time recommendations while preparing snacks and meals. It is also integrated with Google and Amazon Echo devices which means it can be fully voice controlled.
