My Pool Heater Won T Turn On

My Pool Heater Won T Turn On – Are you experiencing problems with your Pentair pool heater? Don’t stress! Like other pool equipment, pool heaters are prone to malfunctions from time to time. Our Pentair pool heater troubleshooting guide will get your heater up and running in no time.

This post covers troubleshooting steps for Pentai MasterTemp heaters and Sta-Rite Max-E-Therm natural gas and propane heaters.

My Pool Heater Won T Turn On

Traditional gas heaters fire horizontal burners at the bottom of a combustion box. The air space above the burner is heated, which in turn heats the copper finned tubes at the top of the combustion box. Water circulating through the copper heat exchanger tubes absorbs the heat, leaving the heater several degrees warmer than when it entered.

In contrast, the Sta-Rite Max-E-Therm pool heater design, now adopted by Pentair, has a stack of circular heat transfer tubes surrounding a combustion cylinder. Gas and air are mixed in the cylinder and ignited, which heats tubes wrapped around the central burner chamber. A circuit board controlled blower exhausts the heater to maintain proper combustion and exhaust.

Troubleshooting the heater’s stacked exchanger isn’t much different than other electronic or digital pool heaters. The controls and circuit boards for the Max-E-Therm and MasterTemp are quite similar. Even the new MasterTemp above ground pool heater has the same design and same troubleshooting procedure. Error codes help you understand what your Pentair heater is trying to tell you.

Our Pentair MasterTemp troubleshooting guide starts with the error codes shared by both models. Follow a 6-page flowchart to troubleshoot a Pentair or Sta-Rite pool heater step-by-step, and get it firing again in no time!

The electrical system of the Pentair MasterTemp pool heaters may seem intimidating, but the diagrams below will steer you clear of any pitfalls. As always, be careful when working with your heater’s electrical system. Make sure the heater is turned off at the breaker and that you wear proper safety gear.

Homemade Solar Water Heater

The burners of this type of MasterTemp/Max-E-Therm heater are unique from previous generation pool heaters. Older style heaters used a low horizontal manifold that fed dozens of individual burners across the bottom of the burner tray, shown at left.

The burner system of MasterTemp/Max-e-Therm heaters is called the flame holder. The burner is located in the center of the combustion chamber, surrounded by circular copper heat transfer tubes. The blower fan regulates the correct amount of exhaust and plays a major role in proper combustion.

The greatest fear of corrosion to relatively soft copper finned tubes is their development of pore leakage. Very low pHand alkalinity levels over several years can remove the copper from a heat exchanger and wear the tube wall paper thin. Saltwater pools can cause corrosion to develop around fin welds, which can lead to leaks. Cupro Nickel heat exchangers can be used for greater resistance to the corrosive effects of salt water.

Leaking heat exchangers are often confused with sweating or condensing heat exchangers. The second major problem with heat exchangers is scaling of water conditions and poor combustion. These problems can cause lime scale to build up in the copper tubing, which renders the heat exchanger useless and requires replacement.

Everything You Need To Know About Pool Heaters

Pentair MasterTemp pool heater parts are organized into 3 parts buckets – Burner System Parts, Electrical System Parts and Water System Parts. The same goes for StaRite Maxetherm heaters.

Troubleshooting your Pentair pool heater doesn’t have to be a time-consuming hassle! Work through the steps listed above and you’ll be cannonballing into your hot tub in no time.

Simple Way To Turn Pool Pump On/off Using St?

As Hayward multiport valves begin to age a variety of problems can arise, some are just annoying and some are actually detrimental to the filter…you know what’s great? When you crave a refreshing swim and have a pool heater to keep the water warm and comfortable

It’s one of the most common problems pool owners face at one point (usually when you open your pool). And it’s easily difficult, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be solved. In fact, turning on your pool heater can sometimes be as simple as a little cleaning. In other cases, it may involve more in-depth troubleshooting.

Either way, if your gas, propane, electric, solar, or heat pump pool heater isn’t working, don’t worry, this post has plenty of solutions for you.

No matter what type of pool heater you have, checking your filter is the best first step in solving your power problems. This is because your pool heater relies heavily on a steady water supply. If it doesn’t get enough water and at high enough pressure, it won’t work at all. If it does, it will probably shut down immediately.

Why Is Your Pool Heater Noisy?

By keeping your pool system unclogged, water can move freely through the pipes at a consistent pressure. This is what it takes to run a pool heater.

If this is your first time running your heater, there is a small chance that your pump may not be strong enough to supply water to the pressure your heater needs.

Often, this common problem is solved by upgrading to a variable speed pool pump. But assume this is a possibility only after you go through the rest of the tips in this article.

Hot Spot Tempo..turns On Automatically? Won’t Heat

It seems obvious, but even if one valve is set in the wrong direction, your heater will not get water. If it does, it definitely won’t work. So take another quick walk around your pool equipment, making sure all the valves to the pool heater are open and the water is moving.

Solution: If your pool heat pump isn’t getting the power it needs from the breaker, it won’t run at all. But if the heat pump worked before and no longer turns on, a damaged electrical connection may be the problem.

Solution:  As mentioned earlier, low water flow caused by a blockage in your pool system can stop your heater from working.

This is the part of the pool heater that transfers heat from the inside of the unit to the water in your pool. But if it’s dirty or corroded, it can trigger a shutdown, possibly preventing the unit from turning.

Solution: Following the same logic as the last step, go to your gas supply and check that its gas line valve is set to the “open” position.

This is the part responsible for shutting down the heater if it overheats. On most units, the switch is located near the heater outlets.

If your electric resistance heater isn’t working, the power supply is always the first thing to check.

Pool Heater Installation: A Complete Step By Step Guide

As with gas heaters, your electric heater’s thermostat should be set at the same or higher temperature than your water.

If you recently refilled your pool but forgot to turn off your electric heater during that time, it could be burned or damaged.

Technically a solar pool heater cannot be run as the “heater” consists mostly of solar panels/materials. However, it is still powered by your pump.

Depending on how your solar pool heating system is set up, your pump will have to send water up to your roof and back to your pool. In some cases, small or damaged pool pumps may not be able to handle the job
