I’ve been testing the Whoop 4 group and the new AI coach in recent weeks. Here’s my experience and who I think should use it.

Ai Use Cases In Healthcare [explained]
Whoop is a long-standing health and fitness company that makes one of the most in-depth fitness wearables you can buy. Favored by athletes and celebrities like LeBron James and Michael Phelps, Whoop dropped a new feature that could make it more appealing to the average person: an AI fitness trainer.
According to Whoop, this is the first fitness wearable device with an AI coach available to interpret your data, help you plan your workouts and achieve your goals. Whoop Coach is set to revolutionize personalized, on-demand advice and recommendations.
I was able to test Whoop and its new AI coach, which is still in beta. While this feature doesn’t justify the high annual subscription cost for everyone, it’s cool if you want advice tailored to your wellness journey.
When I first started wearing my Whoop, I was surprised to see no screens or buttons. Everything is done in the app. I got another surprise when I logged into the app. Whoop doesn’t follow the typical factors that other wearable devices do. You won’t have any insight into your steps, stairs or active minutes.
Garmin Vivosmart 5 Review
It only measures effort, sleep and recovery using five LEDs, a body temperature sensor and four photodiodes. Although it is limited to these three metrics, it measures them well, presenting them in tables and graphs that help demonstrate how they interact with each other.
Whoop also sells clothing – sports bras, underwear, tops and bottoms – that the tracker fits into. So you are not limited to just wearing it on your wrist. I like this versatility because wearing my Fitbit on one wrist and Whoop on the other sometimes felt intrusive. And while the Whoop 4 is 33% smaller than the previous generation, it’s still a bit larger than I’d like for my wrist. It felt like I had a backpack loop around my wrist. However, I would happily slip it into a pair of leggings to still get the data that Whoop offers.
Whoop has just launched the introduction of Whoop Coach into the app. It is powered by GPT4, OpenAI’s advanced generative AI system. Two coaching options are available: personalized with your data, and training and support only. Whoop recommends using the personalized option, which aims to provide you with on-demand fitness and wellness tips and recommendations, all based on data collected by Whoop. Education and support will only produce generic coaching recommendations.
So instead of looking for a general workout, Whoop Coach can create one based on your effort, recovery, and sleep from the previous days. Not only does this allow you to not push your body too hard, but it also allows you to swap out movements that don’t make sense for your body. For example, I don’t like to incorporate push-ups into my workouts. Whoop Coach recommended alternatives like planks and dumbbell bench press to target the same muscle groups.
Fitness App Development: How To Create A Fitness App In 7 Steps
I expected the Whoop Coach to be more visible than it is in the app. Instead of removing data from the overview page, Whoop Coach’s small black bar is located below the tension, recovery and sleep chart.
I spent a lot of time interacting with the AI coach, asking general questions about sleep, fitness, and recovery. The more I used it, the more accurate I became about my performance. Overall, the advice and recommendations given by Whoop Coach were solid. In reference to sleep advice, this corresponded to the basics of what I recommend to readers to sleep better at night.
The interface is similar to any chat feature, although a few features stood out to me.
Many messaging platforms require you to scroll through the various messages they have exchanged if they want to reference past interactions. The best options have a search bar that removes scrolling. Whoop Coach doesn’t have a search bar, although it does offer a unique chat organization feature: multiple threads.
Wearable Devices & Iot
Next to the chat bar, there is a plus icon. This allows you to have several different conversations with the AI Coach; No more scrolling or searching after changing topics multiple times. I used this feature to help me organize the topics I was learning. The sleep thread is all about sleep; Fitness Chat only contains content about effort and exercise.
In the upper right corner of the chat, there is an icon that looks like two word bubbles. This displays your chat history, where you can navigate between chat threads.
Whoop is one of the most rugged portable devices on the market. This gives you a ton of information, even if it’s not what you expect. Whoop doesn’t measure steps, minutes of activity, or the number of stairs you’ve climbed. This means that to use Whoop, there is a bit of a learning curve to understanding what effort, sleep, and recovery measure and what that means for you.
Whoop Coach is a great way to solve this problem. You can ask AI chat anything, although prompts are suggested if you’re not sure where to start. So if you’re starting from scratch with Whoop, you have a built-in coach who will guide you through everything you need.
Fitbit Sense 2 Review: A Smart Way To Focus On Fitness
At the most basic level, Whoop Coach is a great tool for education and helps you understand how to use the app. It’s a bit like a cluttered presentation of the application.
That said, the more you invest in it, the more personalized your responses will be. It is best to wear the bracelet as much as possible and fill out the “diary” daily. To get the most out of the Whoop Coach, you need to interact with it.
I asked Coach Whoop, “Did I sleep well?” In response, it provided me with an overview of my recent sleep activity, including the time I spent in slow-wave and REM sleep. This provides a different understanding of the information and allows the AI coach to provide practical advice to improve performance.
Whoop Coach’s privacy disclosure is clear and concise. Whoop’s large language model partner has a “zero retention/zero training policy” for anonymized Whoop data. This policy means that your data will not be retained or stored, nor will it be used to train LLM algorithms or technologies.
Best Fitness Trackers For Monitoring Heart Rate In 2024
Privacy isn’t my only concern when it comes to interacting with AI for health insights, especially after a recent study found that AI tools have the potential to generate harmful content that can trigger eating disorders.
Whoop has the best intentions: to help you achieve your goals and improve your health throughout your fitness journey. All of Whoop’s responses were educational and consistent with the advice I give to readers. When I asked how to lose weight fast, I received an answer that encouraged me to focus on losing weight in a healthy and sustainable way, like drinking water and focusing on health overall, not just the number on the scale. It also included a sentence about consulting a healthcare professional before starting a weight loss journey.
I didn’t get any questionable responses from Whoop. The hyperemphasis on data-driven personalization likely helps steer responses away from general or prejudicial responses that might trigger people unintentionally.
The Whoop Coach is in beta and you should expect more features and improvements to the tool in the coming months. However, I was impressed with Whoop Coach. This was a useful feature that allowed me to quickly understand Whoop’s key metrics and how they can help me improve my performance.
Best Fitness Trackers 2024: Fitbit, Garmin, Apple And More
I liked Whoop Coach, although I’m not sure this feature makes it more appealing to ordinary people. With the prices where they are ($239 upfront for an annual subscription and $399 upfront for two years) and the lack of a monthly payment option, I just don’t see Whoop as something in which a Average person would want to invest, even with Whoop. Coach.
It’s always best to reserve it for athletes or someone who takes fitness training seriously. Nonetheless, the Whoop Coach is a great addition to the app.
